Ghana Hubs Network (GHN) is making practical UX/UI and user research resources more accessible to Ghana’s innovation ecosystem through the hosting of the Open-Source UX/UI Guide on its website.
Innovation is most impactful when it responds to the real needs, experiences and challenges of the people it is designed to serve.
This principle was reinforced through the User Testing and Support to the Adaptation of Digital Solutions Project, implemented under the Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development in Ghana Programme, led by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with the GFA Consulting Group.
The project brought together solution providers, intermediaries and end users to test and assess digital solutions and generate practical insights into their relevance, usability and suitability for their intended users.
One of the key lessons was the need to move beyond simply creating innovative solutions to designing solutions around the people who will ultimately use them.
Making User-Centred Design More Accessible
To support this shift, an Open-Source UX/UI Guide was developed as a practical resource for professionals and organisations working in digital innovation.
The guide provides resources and approaches that can support:
- User research and understanding user needs
- User-centred design
- UX/UI design processes
- Testing and improving digital solutions
- Inclusive and accessible design
- Practical application of research and design methodologies

Building a Community Around UX/UI
Beyond hosting the guide, Ghana Hubs Network is supporting efforts to establish a UX/UI Community that will bring together designers, researchers, developers, innovation hubs, academics, learners and other digital practitioners.
